Lydia Ray, Associate professor of Computer Science
I received my B.S. and M.S. degrees in Statistics from Calcutta University and Indian Statistical Institute, respectively. I earned my Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. While I have got my degrees in scientific disciplines, I am also passionately interested in humanities, social sciences and social justice issues. My current research focuses on creating a safe, inclusive, equitable cyberspace. One of my current research projects is on creating artificial intelligence based systems to automatically detect phishing emails, scams and fake news. I am also collaborating with another research group to determine how college students, more specifically marginalized groups, are impacted by hate speech, fake news and social media polarization. My main expertise is in networking and cybersecurity. Artificial intelligence is a new domain of knowledge for me. I am thrilled to share my knowledge with you all and also learn about the literary aspect of artificial intelligence from Dr. Jackson.
