Your instructor is requiring you to take exams via proctoring services. This means that you must be observed while you test. If your instructor communicates an additional option to test on campus at a certain date and time, you do not have to choose proctoring.
What is a proctor? A person who monitors students during an exam.
Registering to take a proctored exam: The registration process for proctored exams is a two-step process. You will have to complete both steps regardless of which proctor you choose.

Choose one of the proctoring methods available to you and reserve an appointment with your selected proctor. It is your responsibility to make arrangements with a proctor that meets Columbus State University’s criteria. The proctoring options available to students are:
Proctors CANNOT be an attorney; your immediate supervisor; a religious leader (e.g. cleric, minister, priest, rabbi); a secretary or an office manager; an administrative assistant; an administrative academic profession like an Academic/Department Chair or Dean; a high school or college faculty member; a student tutor; a coworker; a student; a family member or friend. We CANNOT approve librarians, human resources professionals, secondary school principals/vice principals, curriculum directors, or guidance counselors. Additionally, we CANNOT approve college instructors or academic staff unless they are employed in a certified testing facility as outlined above. Previous approval of a third party proctor does not guarantee subsequent approval.
Contact the proctor/testing center directly for information about services, hours of operation, or procedures specific to that location (like ebook usage policies). In most cases, you should expect to pay a fee for proctoring services. Fees average around $25, but can be higher or lower depending on the proctor you choose. Students are responsible for paying all applicable proctoring fees at the time of service.
Any student with a documented disability who is granted a testing accommodation through the Center for Accommodation and Access and who needs to arrange for a proctored exam must contact the proctor directly to make those arrangements. It is also recommended that you provide a copy of your accommodation letter to your proctor if you are not being proctored in the CSU Center for Accommodation and Access.
If you are a military student deployed overseas to an isolated region with no access to a Military Education Office or another approved option, CSU will allow you to use a Commissioned Officer with a pay grade of O-2 and higher, Enlisted Personnel with a pay grade of E-7 and higher, or a Warrant Officer with a pay grade of CW-2 and higher. Please email proctor@columbusstate.edu to arrange this exception to our policy. CSU online students deployed/ training within the United States do not qualify for an exception and should use ProctorU, if available, a TCO, an ESO, or other approved option.
If you decide to have your exam proctored at a third party testing center, please keep in mind that CSU can only approve formal locations that:
