Course Objectives

This learning module addresses the following course objectives:

2. Describe the threats to and vulnerabilities of personal, organizational, and national security information systems.
3. Demonstrate a working knowledge of principles and practices in information security, including application of encryption.
5. Analyze critically situations of computer use, identifying the security issues, consequences and viewpoints.


Module Objectives

After completing the tasks of this module, you will be able to:

  1. Explain why software quality control often does not find security vulnerabilities.
  2. List and explain steps for securing an operating system installation.
  3. Define multi-level security and explain how it can be implemented.
  4. List the functions of a Trusted Platform Module and explain each one.
  5. Explain the significance of the Common Criteria.

Tasks

To achieve the objectives of this module, you must do the following:

  1. Read chapters 10 through 13 of the textbook according to the schedule in the syllabus.
  2. Review with the class and instructor the slides sets Buffer Overflow, Software Security, Operating System Security, and Trusted Computing and Multilevel Security. according to the schedule in the syllabus.
  3. Complete Quiz 6 by the due date.
  4. Complete Assignment 6 by the due date.
