Course Objectives
This learning module addresses the following course objectives:
2. Describe the threats to and vulnerabilities of personal, organizational, and national security information systems.
3. Demonstrate a working knowledge of principles and practices in information security, including application of encryption.
Module Objectives
After completing the tasks of this module, you will be able to:
- Describe the major categories of attacks against information technology resources.
- Compare several types of denial of service attacks, explain the mechanisms of each, and describe appropriate defenses.
- List and explain other network attacks and describe appropriate defenses.
- Compare and contrast three types of intrusion detection systems.
- Distinguish between intrusion detection and intrusion prevention.
- List and compare the types of firewalls; describe the uses for each type.
Tasks
To achieve the objectives of this module, you must do the following:
- Read chapters 6 to 9 of the textbook according to the schedule in the syllabus.
- Review with the class and instructor the slides sets Malicious Software, Denial of Service Attacks, Intrusion Detection, and Firewalls and Intrusion Prevention according to the schedule in the syllabus.
- Complete Quiz 5 by the due date.
- Complete Assignment 4 and Assignment 5 by the due dates.
