Course Objectives

This learning module addresses the following course objectives:

3. Demonstrate a working knowledge of principles and practices in information security, including application of encryption.
5. Analyze critically situations of computer use, identifying the security issues, consequences and viewpoints.

Module Objectives

After completing the tasks of this module, you will be able to:

  1. Describe leakage by inference and explain how it can be possible through database access.
  2. Explain the mechanism of, and defenses against, SQL injection attacks.
  3. Distinguish among different kinds of traffic analysis and explain the insights that can be gained by traffic analysis.
  4. Explain the importance of counterintelligence to security, with examples.

Tasks

To achieve the objectives of this module, you must do the following:

  1. Read chapter 5 of the textbook.
  2. Review with the class and instructor the slides sets Database Security, Traffic Analysis, and Intelligence and Counterintelligence.
  3. View the video by FBI Special Agent Jon Watson; copies of the slides are available.
  4. Complete Quiz 4 by the due date.
